Unlike any other city, this desert fortress is one of Rajasthan is most exotic and unusual towns. Jaisalmer, an important ancient trading centre because of its strategic location on the camel trade routes, is often described as the golden city. The annual desert festival takes place in January and February each year and is a riot of colour and activity. Jaisalmer is also famous for its embroidery, Rajasthani mirror work, rugs, and blankets, antique, silver jewellry, and stonework and camel safaris.
Before Arrival in Jaisalmer 15 KMS BEFORE you will visit the War museum to showcase bravery of Army - Jaisalmer War Museum; has been established in the military station of Jaisalmer to showcase the traditional bravery of the Indian Army and also to commemorate the sacrifice of its heroes ’displaying valour and courage of exceptional order during India wars. The Indian Army has set up a historical war museum in Jaisalmer. This war museum, which is the first-of its-kind on the western front, traces the evolution of the Indian Army and covers in detail its inspiring contribution in mainly 1965 Indo-Pak War and 1971 Longewala battle including all combat operations and other nation building activities. The war museum is located 10 km short of Jaisalmer on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway .This historical war museum could become a new tourist spot for all Indian andforeigner tourists coming to Jaisalmer.

After breakfast leave for the city tour of Jaisalmer. Visit the famous Havelis (mansions) known for their frescoes. Jaisalmer is strategic position on the camel terrain route brought it great wealth. The merchants grew prosperous and commissioned great havelis, or mansions, to flaunt their ever-growing status in society. Made of local goldenyellow sand stone and wood, some of the havelis are still in excellent condition. The most elaborate and magnificent of all the Jaisalmer havelis is the Patwaon Ki Haveli. Five Jain brothers built the Haveli between 1800 and 1860. Salim Singh Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli are the other two havelis that are opened to visitors. Built in 1156 by the Bhatti ruler, Jaisal, THE FORT here stands atop the 80 m high Trikuta hill. 3 walls and 99 bastions surround the fort. Over the centuries, the golden sand stone fortress witnessed many battles between the Bhatti Rajput’s, the Mughals and the Rathore’s of Jodhpur. Within the fort complex lie the beautifully carved Jain Temples built between the 12th and 15th centuries. This houses priceless ancient manuscripts and other exhibits like astrological charts, besides the Jain equivalent of the Christian Shroud of Turin. After breakfast departure for Full Day Excursion Tanot,(120KMS ) Longewala (50 KMS),and Sam Sand dunes.(120KMS) Tanot is a border town in the Thar Desert in the western part of Jaisalmer. It is most notable as the location of the Battle during the Indo- Pakistani War . Its 120KM from Tanot to Jaisalmer. In between you should stop see the Ramgarh village and TV Tower - Around 25 Years ago 300 METRE HIGH (at Present 3 rd in India- Earlier No 01 In India)and you will pass through The Rajasthan Canal (The Indira Gandhi Canal) is the longest canal in India and the largest irrigation project in the world.
Indira Gandhi Canal is 649 km long and consists of Rajasthan feeder canal and Rajasthan main canal and runs through 167 km in Punjab and Haryana and remaining 492 km in Rajasthan. You will see small villages to get feel of mud houses, village kids are friendly. It is around 120 KMS (2:30 hours). Spend good amount of 2 to 3 hours and spend good time talking with The Indian Soldiers. The Indian soldiers there welcome you and explain you that part of history where you will surely salute the Indian army for protecting civilians. Tanot Mata mandir (Temple). Legend has it that during the battle when 100 of bombs were launched by the enemy, almost 400 shells that fell near the temple failed to explode, thus protecting the locals and soldiers. Many of the shells are displayed in a cabinet for all to see.
The scenic beauty between the Jaisalmer to Tanot is awesome. Almost 50KM you won’t find anything but sand. If you want to Visit & see actual India-Pakistan border BABLIYON Border which 20 KMS from here with Permission you can visit (Please carry at least two original ID proofs) Only INDIANS are allowed to visit here. After Tanot Visit Continue Drive to Longewala is a border (50 Kms) It is most notable as the location of the Battle of Longewala during the Indo- Pakistani War of 1971. Spend good amount of 2 to 3 hours and spend good time talking with The Indian Soldiers. In between you should stop and visit small villages to get feel of mud houses, village kids are friendly. In the evening, proceed for the excursion to Sam Sand dunes. Located at a distance of 42 kilometers from Jaisalmer, Sam Sand Dunes is the closest point to witness the total sandy desert. You can also see the patterns and motifs created by the shifting sands and air. The lake is an idyllic spot for outings. Lodhurva - Lodhurva, the ancient capital of Bhatti’s is 16 kilometers from Jaisalmer. Mostly in ruins, it is visited for the great Jain temple, which contains the most exquisite jail work screens, grand ceiling and a magnificent triumphal arch at the entrance. The original carriage for the deity, made in 1675, is still preserved. The most interesting object dart is Kalpataru, a mythical tree of wish fulfillment. Lodhurva has a great number of peacocks, which hover around the temple walls lending spectacular color to the dry and stony landscape. Here once flowed the river Kak. Along its banks had flourished the romance between princess Momal, and prince Mathendru of Amarkot. Their tragic end is the theme of folk songs. When the lovers perished, the river Kak stopped flowing. Visit the Amar Sagar- from Lodhurva, the road to Jaisalmer passes through Amar Sagar, which has a grand artificial reservoir for water, a temple and a promenade on the bank.
